Time management is beneficial for anyone, but writers especially need to be aware of how they’re spending their time. Time management can be crucial for writers because many writers have full-time jobs in addition to their writing career and sometimes family obligations. This leaves them short on time, so writing can be put on the back burner.
What About Writing?
Between life, and work obligations a writer’s craft can sometimes get left behind. Time management can help end that constant struggle. Becoming aware of how you’re investing your time, can help you better manage it. A great book I read on productivity early this year had me track how I spent every hour for three days, so I became aware of the patterns in my schedule. I was shocked by how much time I was wasting get completely distracted or sidetracked by things. Writers, I challenge you to track how you’re utilizing your hours, for three days. Find out where you’re losing time, and how you can remedy that situation. When you become more aware of where you’re losing time, it allows you to pivot and use that time to accomplish something else.
How Do I Market My Previous Book and Write the Next?
Oh man, this is a hard one. How does a person find time to market their previous books, when they can’t find time to write? My best advice is to start scheduling your social media posts. Scheduling social media posts allows a person the luxury of consistent social media posts, without eating up a large amount of time. This is one of the best ways that an author can promote their previous book and continue writing their current one at the same time!
Time management can help an author in so many ways, from helping them accomplish more in a day, to allowing them to reach more potential readers by having a consistent social media presence. No matter how you look at it, time management is both crucial, and beneficial for writers.
